Having some real trouble with CoJ. Seems to be the only game I own that causes artifacts at stock 3d clocks.By artifacts I really mean texture corruption that results in either a BSOD or a vpu recover (usually the former).

I was thinking that it could be my temps, so I've re-applied the thermal gunk to my zalman cooler twice now without much improvement.

I idle at around 47 and the hottest it gets is under 90.

I'm really scratching my head here as it appears this is the oly game it does it during.

Thoughts?

Is it a new card and if so was your old card nvidia. If that was the case
try using driver cleaner to clean out nvidia drivers and also your ati drivers
then reinstall newest drivers. Those temps are fine also as thats around what
my x1900xtx runs at.

Yeah Run driver cleaner then reinstall drivers. Ive always re-formatted when i put a new Gcard in so never had those problems.

dunno if it helps but on 8800gtx i had terrible artifacts and perfromance. I upgraded to a beta driver and now it plays absolutely beautifully, so it very well could be a driver problem.

I've recently upgraded to the latest drivers for my card. I've always used ati so never switched from nvidia.

Dunno, I'm thinking about getting rid of this card and going up to something a bit more beefier. Just really annoyed atm as I can't replicate it in another game.

does supreme commander and farcry work fine for you?

Yup. As lame as it is I sussed what the problem is. The game won't run with then 2 mhz oc on the core or a 1 mhz oc on the memory. I'd set my profiles in tray tools up to be only a few mhz over and that seemed to be the problem. Put them back down and I haven't had a problem since.

Thing is I can put heavy clocks on for the rest of my games and don't have any problems at all.

how do you test your overclocks? using games is not advisable, uing ati tool or tray tools artifact scanner is the best way since it pushes the gfx card to the limit. games most of the time won;t max a card out unless the gave is very highly demanding like coj.

id recommend you use artifact scanning tools to check your card for optimal overclocks.

I do use tray tools to test for artifcats. My memory won't run much over stock but the core will do ~660 mhz.
