At my wits' end
I have no idea what to do guys, I have never had to RMA components before and I really want to be certain of the thing that I do RMA, especially since it is a bit intermittent.
I suspect it is the motherboard, but I really don't know.
I have never had anything like this before, it is so frustrating as normally my troubleshooting steps would work.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, if you need pictures just shout.
- With 8GB(2 DIMM) of RAM installed 90% of the time it will not boot and go into a cold boot loop which has to be hard reset. Sometimes happens with 4GB(1 DIMM) installed, 10%.
- Graphical problems, sometimes not recognizing on my ubuntu install, rarely get glitching.
- Memtest 2 passes on each DIMM in both socket, 2 passes with full 8GB 2 DIMM.
- Using only 1 DIMM, workes most of time but does not solve underlying problem.
- Double checked all power, 24pin + 4 pin, tried alternative 4 pin.
- Reset CMOS via header and by removing battery.
- Upped memory voltage to 1.55 from 1.5 default, did seem to boot more frequently with 2 DIMM. Also checked timings, they are as advertised.
- Built on outside of case on cardboard box on removable motherboard tray, with barebones.
- Reset everything, inc CPU + Cooler and CMOS.
- PSU, got hold of a spare PSU off brother, exactly the same, did boot with 1 DIMM and failed once as well, failed completely with the 2 DIMM.
