My 530 with the M60 engine is having cold starting issues!!

When i go to start it, after standing, the engine cranks over fine, but i have to do ti for about 5 seconds before it starts.. It then starts and sort of chokes with a bit of a PHUT PHUT then picks up fine and drivers totally fine?

Now straight away i thought of nikasil problems, but this is an Alusil engine, as proved with the engine number (1745871)

So this should not be an issue?

Any ideas what to check? intake manifold gaskets perhaps?

My e38 sometimes does this, apparently (although I'm not sure!) its the first signs of a failing fuel pump.

That said, it would appear my pumps been on its way out for the last 22,000 odd miles!

I found the problem goes away as long as the tank is kept over 1/4 full. :)
