Our 16 year old upvc door won't lock properly. I push the handle upwards to engage the locks but the key won't turn so I have to give the handle an extra boost upwards to be able to turn the key.

I've managed to take the metal strip off the door and oiled the gearbox and lock but it still sticks. It's a 35mm depth gearbox and 232mm high and i've had a look on amazon and found one that looks the same.

Would it be the gearbox causing this do you think? (the part the handle engages with)

I have the EXACT same issue with some of mine and they are Coldseal too. At a guess, the same age. I have adjusted the hinges to bring the door closer/away from the frame to make it different heights on other side allsorts.. Still not doing anything..

Sounds like the door might have dropped a little. You can test this by opening the door and lifting the handle. then mark with a pencil where the hooks and rollers are, then offer the door upto the keepers in the frame and you should be able to see if the door has dropped.

The other common cause is if the top hinge has allowed the door to move laterally. It's often an allen bolt hidden behind a cover or cap that just needs winding over a little.

Thanks chaps, it was the door that had dropped. I could see a very small gap at the top right when standing outside so I turned the hinge screws counterclockwise afew turns to move the door up and all fixed.

Saved me some cash so thanks :)
