I can't seem to get the game to work in 5.1. I'm using an X-FI Extreme Music, with Z5500 in Vista 64 . When looking in the sound options, my only choices are:-

Mixing - OpenAL 3D
DSP Quality - Off
Sound Channels - OpenAL 3D

which doesn't provide surround sound or

Mixing - Software
DSP Qualtiy - Low
Sound Channels - Very Low>Very High

And this doesn't give me surround sound. Yet when I look on the internet people with an X-FI Extreme Gamer can change DSP Quality (to high) and Sound Channels on OpenAL 3D.

Cheers

I had the same problem with dirt and vista to fix it i used direct 3D sound and use Creative ALchemy software:)

So instead of what u use atm

Mixing - OpenAL 3D
DSP Quality - Off

Use

Mixing - direct 3D sound (and Creative ALchemy software to make it work in Vista)

DSP Quality - HighHope this helps:)

I can't offer any direct help but I've just realised if you turn the sound to system and the option below to low I get a massive performance gain! With your specs you should be able to play with everything on pretty high settings.

Cheers for the replies, I can play at 40fps+, maxed out with 4aa @ 1280x1024 :)

I fixed the sound quality (as it sounded poo before, by switiching to "game mode" under console on the xfi; dunno why it made a difference as they are set the same).

Will give your ideas a try tomorrow!

Yes, DiRT was as far as I can recall the first sound limited PC game :p
