Colin McRae Dirt Patch 1.1 - Anyone else get this?

After installing the 1.1 patch I seem to get error messages disallowing me to run the game with everything in ultra mode and highest resolution. In version 1.0 (without patch) I could run this fine but now I get an error message saying my video memory is insufficient and to run in safe mode.

I have a

E6600 at 3.5GHz
BFG 8800GTS 320MB
2GB GeIL ULL

Anyone else have this? I want to keep it patched as it fixes some bugs in the game but I want to also play it in highest quality, is there a work around?

not sure what res you're trying to run at but I'm guessing that with your spec, ultra detail at anything much above 1280x1024 is gonna be virtually unplayable anyway so I'd suggest they're doing you a favour. You'd probably need the 640MB GTS or the GTX to play it smoothly on ultra at high res.

I'm playing at 1280 on a 19" TFT - won't go any higher than that. Play most of my games in that too, seems odd.

Works fine for me in Ultra at 1280x1024, only setting that wont stay on Ultra is the shadows, they always drops back to high, but i think the patch makes the shadows do that, but everything else that can go to Ultra goes no probs.

don't get the error message myself either. It'll let me select Ultra, I just don't due to low fps.

I had that once with the new patch, i just rebooted though and it worked fine, stupid game telling me lies

That a new feature of the 1.1 patch. But i dont know of a work around. Never seen it before playing it maxed on the rig in sig at 1280x1024.

Can you not just set it via a .cfg file of some sorts and just by-pass the menu system?
