Right, one of my college assignments has to be handed in tomorrow and I'm stuck on 2 bits of it, I've completed the rest apart from 2 things which I'm unsure about and cant find any info on it. The questions in question are...

• Provide a simple data flow diagram of how data flows around the system.

• Describe how computers store data and information.

Now, the first one I'm thinking something along the lines of

input - process - output ~ storage

but then I'm thinking its something about bus's and I/0 or something.

the 2nd one, i cant just say, on the Hard drive, lol. I think it means exactly how does it get stored on the hard drive although i dont know how that is, looked on Wikipedia but no specific stuff on this so I'm stuck, does anybody have any idea's or point me in the right direction would be great, thnx.

This is how data flows:

HDD--->RAM--->CPU Register--->CPU ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)--->CPU Register(maybe)--->RAM--->Then either back to HDD or somewhere else it is needed

EDIT: Thats without going into MBR, MAR and all the other specific registers within the cpu ;). But you wont need to know that

For the second one surely you need to say something about binary? After all that is how all digital data is stored, you can mention how analogue data such as audio gets sampled to create digital data that can be stored on computers/CDs etc.

Exactly how complicated do you want this?

For first diploma it will be simple stuff, ND Systems support level 3 is technical shizz

OMG! we learnt this in the first week!! i remember, thnx, and to you Gonzo0 !

Ah right then, basic intro to binary, the value of having digital files - copying with no loss of quality, editing, pasting etc etc. Something about short term (volatile) storage such as Ram and longer term (permanant) storage such as hard drives. That sort of thing? Sounds fairly do-able. :)

//edit, no problem, glad to be of some use.
