Hi.

Has some of you may know, i had a car collison last week where the driver was going opposite direction on a quiet road and he just turned into me without looking in broad day light and ran off in the process.

I suffered just bruises thank god but i went flying and did a 360 flip in the air!

My bike's wheels are bent and the front tyre punchured.

However, when i fully checked it the next day i notice my carbon fork is cracked/split!

The bike i have is this one http://www.decathlon.co.uk/ultra-700-af-road-bike-105-id_8324331.html

Is the bike a complete right-off or is the carbon fork fixable for half the price of the bike?

I guess i would need to go to the decathlon store to see how much they can replace the fork if even possible?

if its the same price or near the same price as the whole bike, i may just be inclined to buy a new one

Possibly this one http://www.decathlon.co.uk/mach-720-carbon-road-bike-105-id_8339670.html

Now i wont be cycling anytime soon as i am still recovering plus debating whether i should commute by bike anymore due to the accident but i am not giving up cycling as a whole and would still do a few cycles in weekends etc.

Broken carbon fibre is a write off.

Might be worth a visit to your LBS to see if they can source and fit a new fork. I don't imagine Decathlon will be any use as they just sell the whole package.

Just as i thought plus even if they somehow replace the front fork, it wont be exact same design as the decathlon one i imagine.

Anyways as the bloke did a runner and the car being registered to the previous owner, my chances of getting compensation for my bike is slim so i may need to fork out my own dosh for this.

Could my damaged bike be sold to a scrap-yard of some sort that could maybe use the frame and gear set as spare parts?

Where would i go to obtain a quote for such a thing?

Update:

The frame's rear triangle is significantly out of alignment to the right-side of the bike, the forks are broken on the right side, the handlebars have taken a hit significant enough to mis-align the left sti and move the stem off from centre and in cases such as this it's normal (safer) to consider them impacted enough to render unsafe, likewise with the cranks. The bike took a heavy hit.

So thats that then! Could u get anything off of it by selling it for spare parts etc or should i completely bin it?.

That's a bit of a downer..

Did you get anywhere with getting any sort of compensation? I know theres the fund for people getting hit by uninsured drivers, not sure if a claim can be made from that?

Police are very slow in investigating the matter/updating me.

Latest is that beginning of this week i sent them the video footage and eye witness details as the report i gave them a few weeks ago still hasn't landed on the investigators desk.......
