Friend of mine was readying himself for a night out yesterday when he came into my room, picked up my cologne/perfume and pressed the trigger 4 times....... directing the spray across the upper half of his body 
I turned to him, laughed and explained (imo) that two light squirts/sprays wouldve been sufficient and that that applying too much almost makes a really good cologne smell bad.
I cant stand walking past people (be they man or woman) who have clearly poured a bottle of perfume all over themself. I just think scent given off by perfume should be subtle and soft rather than hard hitting and near mind blowing.
So come on...... How much do you apply?
