Imagine if the Colosseum reopened its gates to gladiators, how it was back in roman times. Would you go to watch it or even take part in this brutally cool sport. Imagine just turning over onto sky sports and and watching it, i think it would be brilliant.

Just human gladiators, or animal fights too? Apparently 'they' found evidence that the Colosseum used to be flooded for epic marine battles, too! Would the gladiators be willing participants, or as in Roman times would they be conscripted to it? Perhaps use it as a means to 'send them back', or to punish criminals?

Stand for election - The Colosseum Reintroduction Party - and see what happens :D

We live in an age where we are so overprotected from ourselves that even a sport as inherently dangerous as F1 racing... where people sit in carbon fibre cars and drive in excess of 200MPH, is made safe by massively restricting it (I know, I know, supposedly its to make it more "interesting" but really, who wanted to see the demise of Group B Rallying?)

I dont think an arena where muscled men fight and kill (or get killed by) lions, tigers, christians and other endangered species is likely to be resurrected anytime soon :)

However, to answer your question, I couldnt bring myself to watch it no, in the same way as I could not watch an execution (other thread), I could not watch something knowing that the thing could not end until something was dead.

Do remember that not all gladiatorial combat was to the death and the greatest gladiators became absolute superstars. Women would buy the strigil scraped oil/dirt/skin mixture that had come off the best gladiators in the bath houses to use as a perfume/beauty product
