Hi all,

Just purchased a S/H monitor - Asus VH242H.

I know its not the best, coming from a 20" Dell, but will suit my gaming needs for the rest of the year.

Just wanted to pick your brains regarding colour calibration and what are good base settings to tweak from.

Thanks.

Chris.

Some monitor review sites (TFT Central) often post their .icc profile and keep them in a datbase for all to use. However they do stipulate that every panel is different so the settings and .icc colour calibration they used for a reference image may not look the same for everyone else.

Failing that see if there are some profiles posted on forums (OCN, WeCraveGames). The problem is that profiles for TN panels are rarer to find compared to IPS ones.

Unless you get a coloromiter you can only go by eye by using reference DVD's and tweak the r,g,b, colour, gamma, sharpness etc values.

PCM2 will be better advising though. :p

Or try these:

ASUS VH242H Image Quality Settings:

---------------------------------------------------
Setting 1: 'sRGB Standard'
---------------------------------------------------
Splendid: Standard

Image:
-Brightness: 70
-Contrast: 50
-Sharpness: 36
-Saturation: N/A
ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Control): N/A

Color:
-Color Temp: User Mode (R-75, G-71, B-51)
-Skin Tone: N/A

I'd echo what majnu said really. If you don't have a colorimeter/spectrophotometer to hand then the best you can do is go 'by eye' and see what looks good to you on your own unit. By all means try some ICC profiles and other people's settings (those given above are a good starting point) but be particularly weary of changes made to the colour channels as each unit can be quite different in that regard.
