Colour chasing LED's

Hey, I so want to get some LED's for that under the case glow, was going to get just one of those standard RGB strips with RF controller and remote, but just came across ones that allow for each LED to be a separate colour and allow for effects/patterns on them, would love to have not just fading but cycling from back to front etc.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of thing, got any tips for what to go for and pictures?

I've not seen anything off the shelf but this sort of thing is done all the time with microcontrollers or Arduino.
