Colour profiles, what do you use?

After realising that all my photobucket images are displayed in sRGB when I upload them in Adobe RGB, I've decided to just start converting my RAW shots to sRGB in ACR since I almost always share them on the web, and I read that most printers don't do a great job of expanding aRGB profiles anyway.

In theory, aRGB is the way to go, but in practice is it simpler to just work in sRGB? And if so, how do you set up your wide gamut monitor (I use a u2711 for instance) in a way that still takes advantage of your expanded colour range, but still produces accurate results?

I'm a bit confused!

I have the same monitor and set it to the sRGB profile, I ensure its enabled as the colour proofing profile in all required apps.

One day I will get my monitor calibrated which should further help a little.

But doesn't that mean you're missing out on the extra colours afforded by said monitor? That was my first instinct, but then using sRGB means you won't ever use the full capabilities of your monitor no?

I want to ensure my images look correct to sRGB which is pretty standard, especially on the web. If you use a colour space with a wider gamut, like Adobe RGB, the colours can end up being wrong when you upload to the web because its being display as sRGB.

I don't use my computers for much else these days though.
If you are into gaming and watching films on it, perhaps just change colour space when not working on photos.
