Similar to my previous thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17848299, I'm looking at picking up a .com domain and again a little confused as to the dates...

whois.net gives me:

Domain Name: **********.COM
Registrar: NAMEKING.COM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.nameking.com
Referral URL: http://www.nameking.com
Name Server: NS1.DSREDIRECTION.COM
Name Server: NS2.DSREDIRECTION.COM
Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 02-mar-2009
Creation Date: 31-jan-2006
Expiration Date: 31-jan-2009

However, at the bottom of that page - and on the nameking.com whois it says:

********.COM NOT FOUND.

Any ideas? :)

It lapsed a month ago though? All this domain expiry stuff confuses me, why is the expiry date not the expiry date? :)

i'm by no means a professional with this so don't quote me on it but afaik when a domain expires the owner still has like say month to renew, after that a company will buy it and offer it back only to the original owner at a massive increase, say 500%, then if it isn't renewed eventually it gets set back into the wild for a split second until someone who was watching it buys it again.

It was owned by a domain grabber, they probably got no hits though...

youve gotta be darn lucky to get a domain thats just expired/being released!
most decent names these days will have auto buy systems if the current owner doesnt wish to renew, then they just mark the price up for anyone else.

sucks for the average joe but good money in it I suppose as some people are willing to pay! Domain I wanted was $488 then $688 after I enquired, 6 months later its still for sale and price hasnt changed one bit!

Anyone here running scripts to catch .coms? :)

So when will it be released to the world again?

never, the second it does someone (millions of people) will be ready to snap it up (based on what i have read).

if you want that name you are going to have to pay for it unfortunately and i'm sure other peoples pockets will be deeper then yours.

Therefore it does become available at a point, however briefly. I'm trying to establish when this is.

If I can get in on the snatching action, then I can increase my chances of getting it, hence me asking if anyone was a registrar of .coms here.

fairenough, but (again this is just from reading around so may be incorrect) i don't think it ever really will get released for you to be able to grab it, other companies who are in the know about this will be there to take it.

good luck any way hope you do get it but thankfully there is a lot of money to be made getting good names and people will be putting in a lot of effort to get it, people may even have deals with say godaddy in that they pay them £1 million then then godaddy will let them know of the when the domains are expiring first.
