COM port issue - any ideas?

I am trying to do a COM port loopback test on a COM -> USB cable. I bridge pins 2 and 3 but whenever I connect to the COM port using hyperterminal the data that I send is only displayed/recieved when I disconnect and then reconnect via the COM port. It's as if a delay is taking place - does anyone have any ideas why this is as the recieved data should happen instantly/be echo'd instantly.

Why does it require a COM port re-connect to display it? :confused:

That is very odd.

The only thing I can suggest is ditch HT and download Putty and see what happens.

I was just looking for a USB to DB9 for megasquirt without paying through my teeth.

Yeah those USB converters can be quite flakey with certain applications, just unlucky I guess.
