Combat Flight Sim Game

Recently me and a Friend of mine have been playing a lot of BF2142 and have found the most enjoying in flying the gunship and raining unholy hell down on other gunships and transports, and on ground units. We figured we would probably also really enjoy a combat flight sim, and having played one in the past I fancied trying out another WW2 one.

My question is, what is a good recently released (ish) ww2 flight sim that has decent multiplayer options (Ie. Team Dogfights perhaps evne Co-Op missions if possible) and an active community. SP is not so much an issue as I would be buying this mainly for the multi, but if its there, I won't complain.

Now, what can you tell me? :)

IL2 is generally considered the undisputed champion of WW2 flight sims, you'd need all the add-ons, the recent 1946 pack would have it all in for around 15 of your englieesh pounds.

Second that, excellent game.

Decent tutorials aswell to get you into the game which is something thats quite daunting when playing a new sim!

What are the graphics like? Im assuming since it has a lot of Expansion packs it aint the newest of games?

I would suggest wwiiol but given the current state of the game it would probably be too frustrating for a new pilot. IL2 lets you hone in offline and have fun in limited arenas.

If youre into a more realistic experience give it a go, you certainly have coop and the ability to rain hell on people playing as inf and armor. However, the game is currently going through some large problems (drops, bad fps etc) associated with its very old graphics engine and a mad idea to introduce fog into the world to limit draw distance. All this has achieved is to give everything a grey colour as youre constantly in a mist of varying degrees. Mad.

Still, its worth looking up if youre ready to put up with frustration in the name of the ultimate coop game. I believe theres a 2 month free trial that members can send out too.

I'd also recommend Il2: 1946. However don't expect it to be as easy as BF2142.
Comes with hundreds of planes now in 1946 especially if you have never played IL2 before they will all offer different experiences.

A joystick is almost a must for a game like Il2 and if you get hyperlobby (a bit like xfire for many il2 players) you can join in either straight into a dogfight where its player vs player, respawning etc. or there is a coop mode where you and your squadron can work together to kill AI. Once you get into it you can also create your own missions.

Join the online wars in IL2 for player vs player co-ops, that have real war fronts that are decided by player actions, with set objectives and goals. Do be warned, however, as there are some SERIOUSLY talented pilots out there.

IL2 is the only choice IMHO, there are some poo hot piolots out there but if you get on hyperlobby and do a bit of chatting, there are usually some really nice vets who will take you under their wing ;)

watch the swearing dude. They don't like that around these parts :p.

Right well I will have to give this a go then. Is a good joystick worth getting as all I have are some very old budget Saiteks.
