Combi Boiler woes

So I noticed my boiler has lost pressure today, and had thrown a low pressure warning code, and shut down.


Refilling it I noticed it was slow to build the pressure back up… no signs of internal leak, so I checked outside and I’ve got a waterfall coming out of the copper pipe in the pic..I’d assumed this pipe was defunct and the plastic pipe was the condensate drain pipe.. anyone know what the copper one is… expansion vessle burst? PRV Stuck open?


I’ll have to call the plumber but would like to understand what’s going on better!

It'll likely be from the PRV given its angled into the wall, i'm not a plumber but given what you said i'd say the valve seal/spring has failed and is stuck somewhat open

Thanks, yes someone else has saif it might be a failed PRV, or maybe a failed expansion vessel...

Annoyingly I cant acess the schrader valve on the expansion vessel to test further without half dismantling the boiler as its placed really awkwardly

It's actually pointed normally but the bricks have corroded

PRV can often fail if they open and a bit of crap gets in the seal.. You could activate it and see if it clears...... Couldn't really make it worse

It's 130 year old yorkshire stone...all the houses (of the same age) in this area are the same, it's just a bit of spalling.
