Combo Boiler in master bedroom - bad idea?

Morning all.

Me and the girlfriend are looking and buying a new build flat (on a rent to buy scheme but that's for another thread) and we went for a second viewing last night. It's still just breeze blocks but you can get an idea of the size/layout.

Now this is one of two flats that we are looking at and it is currently the favourite but for one thing. The combi boiler is going to be in the master bedroom. Apparently it has to go there because of where the gas enters the flat ()

My big worry with this is that it will make a racket in the morning when the heating comes on before we wake up.

Has anyone got a combo in their bedroom (or living room)? How do you find it?

Any experiences / general advice welcome.

I've only ever had them in kitchens, and they have all been pretty 'wooshy', don't think one in a bedroom is a good idea at all.

It isn't ideal imo, they are pretty noisy and ours seems to have got louder over time. The casing kind of rattles now when it starts up.

I would never buy a place that had the boiler in any of the bedrooms. It's bad design, pure and simple. You will be disturbed by it; although you may get used to it. The risk from carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, etc. is small but amplified by being in the room while you're sleeping.

The boiler in my previous place was in a cupboard in the bedroom. You could hear the soft whump as it lit but that was about it. I certainly wasn't disturbed by it at all.

A girl I dated at uni had the boiler in her room, it meant it used to get pretty hot in there (fnarr fnarr) and yes the noise did used to wake me up. She got used to it though, and it did make my flat seem freezing cold.

Don't do it. Combo boilers are way too loud when in use.

That's my biggest worry but realistically the only time we'd be in the room when it's on would be in the early hours when the heating comes on.

It's a massive shame too cos we both loved the flat.

It couldn't be too hard to move it 5ft into the second bedroom next door?

Listening to whoosh, click, thump everytime the boiler does a hot water pre-heat would be about as much fun as being hit by a dead jellyfish. An listening to the whoosh as it heats water or the central heating would be even less fun.

I'm not sure it would even be legal, and I wouldn't feel comfortable with the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning (albeit very slim)

Mines in a cupboard, with quite a thin door, beside my bed. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Wouldn't you be able to put a box with a small door around it?

no bloody way, what a stupid idea.

It will also make selling the flat on much harder as most will have the same concerns you do.

in our old house we had a new combi installed in the airing cupboard next to it (6 years ago) we had the system come on 15 mins before getting out of bed, thou the boiler would always wake me before. overall it wasnt noisy, just a low "werring" noise in the background

note: i was told it safe to have these close proximity to sleeping space as all new boilers are sealed, so carbon monoxide cant escape

Combi boilers don't do hot water pre heats. They only fire when ondemand for hot water or CH

We have recently had a combi fitted, its gone in our lounge in a cupboard and we only notice it starting up when either CH is on or someone turns a hot water tap on then its a bit of a whoosh sound and thats just about it....doesnt bother us in the slightest.

In a bedroom....dont think it would bother me either, after all you tend to sleep in there mainly.

Does seem a bit like a cost cutting exercise though.
