First of all, please don't turn this into a flame thread.
I've never had any preference over ATi or nVidia, although the last few cards have been ATi - purely down to the software (ATi Tray Tools - I love it!).
I owned a 6800GT, then a X800XTPE then a X1800XL - then sold my rig and I'm waiting it out for a new card and seeing what R600 brings.
My decision will be based on one thing:
Will R600 have good aniostropic filtering like the 8800 does, if so I will go with ATi again to carry on using Tray Tools. There is an nvidia version of tray tools made by someone else but it's basically a patch work of a few programs integrated into a scruffy menu.
One thing that is annoying me at the moment, and it's mainly ATi doing this:
There is no choice in the market at the moment for top end graphics cards. There is the 8800 series and ATi only have X1950XT-X. Both good cards, but buying the X1950 this time wouldn't be a good idea, it's featureset isn't as good as the 8800 series (which is true, please don't turn this into a "the features are not needed yet thread") and it will lose value quicker when R600 comes out.
Secondly, motherboards....
RD600 still no where to be seen for 775? 680i is out and at ridiculous prices because nothing rivals it for overclocking. 975 and 965 are good chipsets but don't have the features of 680i.
I've been keeping an eye on DFI's incarnation of RD600 and even one of their own support members (Travis aka Angy/Happy_Games) has said the chipset isn't as good as it should be, as the infinity 975 board does everything it does better. I'm disapointed if this is true, and it's from an unbiased source, so why would it not be true?
My 6800GT, X800XTPE, X1800XL all were fantastic cards and if R600 doesn't match IQ of 8800 then that it where my cash will be going. I just wish ATi were quicker at getting products out the door.
