First of all, please don't turn this into a flame thread.

I've never had any preference over ATi or nVidia, although the last few cards have been ATi - purely down to the software (ATi Tray Tools - I love it!).

I owned a 6800GT, then a X800XTPE then a X1800XL - then sold my rig and I'm waiting it out for a new card and seeing what R600 brings.

My decision will be based on one thing:

Will R600 have good aniostropic filtering like the 8800 does, if so I will go with ATi again to carry on using Tray Tools. There is an nvidia version of tray tools made by someone else but it's basically a patch work of a few programs integrated into a scruffy menu.

One thing that is annoying me at the moment, and it's mainly ATi doing this:

There is no choice in the market at the moment for top end graphics cards. There is the 8800 series and ATi only have X1950XT-X. Both good cards, but buying the X1950 this time wouldn't be a good idea, it's featureset isn't as good as the 8800 series (which is true, please don't turn this into a "the features are not needed yet thread") and it will lose value quicker when R600 comes out.

Secondly, motherboards....

RD600 still no where to be seen for 775? 680i is out and at ridiculous prices because nothing rivals it for overclocking. 975 and 965 are good chipsets but don't have the features of 680i.

I've been keeping an eye on DFI's incarnation of RD600 and even one of their own support members (Travis aka Angy/Happy_Games) has said the chipset isn't as good as it should be, as the infinity 975 board does everything it does better. I'm disapointed if this is true, and it's from an unbiased source, so why would it not be true?

My 6800GT, X800XTPE, X1800XL all were fantastic cards and if R600 doesn't match IQ of 8800 then that it where my cash will be going. I just wish ATi were quicker at getting products out the door. :(

I am also waiting for ATI's new card, hoping that it will be DX10 and also that it uses less juice than the 8800GTX so don't have to buy a new PSU.

Any release dates confirmed?

I've given up waiting for the R600, I'm buying an 8800gtx as soon as. I'll flog me x1900xt in the meantime. I've had a shedload of ATI cards recently, but I got fed up with waiting, so I'm gonna try nvidia this time. The R600 had better be something special when its released, they've missed the boat again and nvidia have a head start, plus theres a likelyhood that nvidia will have something waiting to counter R600 when its finally up fro grabs.

ATI have the same quality filtering but it's not enabled by default. Use ATI Tray Tools to enable High Quality AF.

Filtering on the G80 is far better than anything ATI have to offer at the moment. :)

ATI are always trailing behind Nvidia now, giving them a rep for being slow. Pull your fingers out ATI!
How about just go Nvidia if you can't wait around?

It's not the end of the world, and ATI obviously aren't worried enough to hurry.

Tbh, I'd rather have good, fast, stable hardware, and those couple of months be put into solid boards and fixing bugs etc, than a rushed product that has a huge issue with dying, like some recent Nvidia boards ;)

How can they always trail after nvidia if its only just happened now?

x1950pro is awesome value for money and the 7900gtx was inferior to the x1900 and x1950xt/x cards.

Nvidia are currently winning at midrange(7600gs/t), low-pcie range (7100-7300gt) and top range (8800)but all the others like high range agp(x1950pro), top-mid range pcie (x1950pro), low range are covered by ati. (agp/pci/intergrated)

I don't know if you read XS but they have been looking at the dfi rd600 for some time now there is even a review on it by anandtech.

It is shaping up to be a good bit of kit. :)

Also, nobody knows anything about r600 so there is no point in asking, the few people that do know about it, cant say anything.

Just wait, patience is a virtue....

That setting is not the same I have read, and still does not produce as good aniostropic filtering.

I am too waiting for the R600, it'll be better than the 8800 no doubt but its obvious though as its out 6 months late!

i to am feed up waiting for r600 may not even purchase the thing just want to see how it compares

the only thing stopping me from upgrading at the moment is the sheer lack of quality new titles so nothing to lose by waiting to see what the reds have to offer
