Setting up a new rig, heres the spec...

Asus A8N sli premium (bios 1008)
3700 san diego
2 X 1Gb Corsair CMX 1024 3200 C2PT
WD raptor 74Gb
Leadtek PX6800 GT

Ok, change bios to boot from cdrom, insert XP pro, everything is fine, boots up and starts to load windows.

Windows gets to "startup" after loading all the drivers and the I get BSOD.

Technical information

*** STOP: 0x0000007b (0xf7c79524, 0x000003,0x0000000,0x00000000

this happens at the same time every time I try and load windows. Have removed sticks of mem, replaced with 1, then the other, increased power to mem slightly etc etc etc.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Let it do a few loops of MemTest86 tests 5 and 8, see if you get any errors. This is always the first thing I do when putting a new rig together - helps give you confidence that the basics (cpu, mem and mobo) are basically OK. If it passes, then look to drives, cables, IDE & SATA etc.

Problem solved. I had put the same disk back in thinking it was a different copy. Placed another band new xp cd into the drive and hey presto, Im formatting the drive now.

Thanks for the heads up
