I've gone through the leather office chairs from staples and ikea. But they're not very good for a long day at the desk.

I need recommendations for good 24hr operator chairs, colour not too important as long is it's not fuscia or any other gawdy persuasion.

Have any of got recommendations (up to 200 pounds but hoping to get something around 100 pounds).

Not keen on the Herman miller mesh types (I know they have a strong following).

Thanks,
Cardinal Fang.

Herman Miller Aeron if you can pick one up second hand for around £250-300 you will never buy another operator's chair. :)

They are the most adjustable, most comfortable chair I have ever had the chance to own or use while sitting doing anything for a long period of time.

How much do one of those chairs go for brand new?

Oooh those chairs are nice... always wanted one of those. Closest i'll ever come though is sitting on a display model :o)

I'll stick with my £30 jobby from Staples.... nice chair actually :p

We've got Herman Miller Mirra chairs at work (sitting on one right now, in fact), and nice as they are, I wouldn't pay the £400 + VAT they cost for one at home. I got my standard operators chair free from our old office when the company moved. It was fairly new and hardly used (it was at the reception desk when we didn't even have a receptionist).

Are you guys trying to wind me up? Out of all the chairs in the world, I specifically mentioned that I'm not keen on the Herman Miller ones. :) :) :) :p

I think the Herman Miller Aero chairs are tremendously overrated. I like the look of those Herman Miller Ambi ones though, but the cost is prohibitive.

Doesn't anyone here work with Health&Safety? Is there a big difference in the 24hr chairs compared to the 8hr ones?

Would really recommend having a look at http://www.harrisonltd.co.uk/

If you contact them they will provide a number of options.

I paid a little more than your willing to pay and got the Joy chair - http://www.orangebox.com/product.asp?categoryid=7&item_id=127

It has to be one of the best buys I have made in ages, really comfortable, plenty of adjustments, quality build! and a huge range of colours to pick from.

Not only that but it is just about the most sustainable chair out there  - just read orangebox's website for details about why they are sustainable. I also paid for the old chair to be taken away and recycled (this includes burning parts that can not be recycled, but thats better than landfill).

Why are you so against the Herman's?

I agree I'd never pay full price for a new one at around £700-1000 that's just crazy, I have just found a website selling fully specced 'B' size chairs with lumbar support for £270 + Del.

Mr Sustainable: Thanks - looking at the orangebox website - where did you buy yours from?

From Harrison Ltd.

Link to the website above.

I see that TheKnat doesn't like them. I personally think its great as an office worker for four years now, having used a number of different chairs, the joy was the best chair I have used. Even better than the £600 chairs at our Head Quarters office.

In truth, maybe there are better chairs out there and the choices from Harrison ranged from £200 ish to £600 with different warranties etc. Personally I would recommend it, as its comfortable, supports the back (far less back troubles these days) and I got it in a mean blue colour (loads of colours to choose from). It was delivered directly from Orangebox by a lady who showed me how to use the controls, though they are simple and come with a neat little instruction manual.

Its worth giving Harrison a ring and explaining that you are looking for a good quality computer chair and could they provide you with some options, and then comparing them against other options.

P.s. I don't get any commision - I just like to promote good quality and good customer service.

Journey: Why I don't like the Aero Chairs

..... not only that, but the chairs don't feel comfortable to me (I tried them at my last place of work).

Well fair enough if they do not feel comfortable to you, but that website you linked to is a load of guff.

It's one person opinion who decided that they either couldn't afford one and had to feel better by slagging it off, or they sat in one for 5 mins and decided it was uncomfortable.
