Hopefully this gets a discussion up and running and not a series of one liners about how elite the PC is.. No honestly hope this does spark a debate as this is something that has always got me thinking..

I’ve owned many games consoles, latest is a PS3 (owned an xbox 360 for a while but sold it 6 months afterwards) in fact got two PS3 systems. One in the living room and one in the bedroom.. At one time I was playing PS3 games almost exclusively, right up until the arrival of GT5 back in December 2010..

I’m a avid PC gamer though, but this happened back in the PS1 days, and PS2 days. I get a console, I play my games on these consoles for sometime, almost never giving the PC any time at all, then I suddenly go back to the PC and fall in love with PC gaming again..

Been playing more and more PC games since January 2011 and now I’m looking at my recent purchases, not one in the past months has been for my PS3, which is exactly what happened to me back in the PS2 days. My Ps2 ended up being a Wipeout and GT4 games console, guess what my PS3 is… GT5 and Wipeout HD along with uncharted series, basically if the game is out for PC I’m favouring to buy for PC instead…

Recently picked up Deus Ex a game I fully intended to get for my PS3 for PC, F1 2012 again PC and I just always end up back to the PC. Like PC gaming has a beam that somehow draws me back in again… Guess I’m just a true, honest PC gamer at heart..!!

im looking forward to new consoles cause then the devs will actually start pushing out some better newer type games with the better hardware in them.

dem consoles. still cant wait for them to announce the proper spec cause people are going to be like wtf  my pc isnt that quick :p or i paid how much for that spec !!

Not sure what you want us to discuss??

You went on saying it got you thinking and then procceeded to tell us your console and PC gaming history?

Pretty much what i got. What is there to discuss OP? You state you have phases between your console and PC and you enjoy gaming on both of them, there's nothing to discuss as the way you phrased your post makes it as a thread to tell us you have phases between your PS3 and your PC and nothing more.

Erm yeah I was trying to be careful with how I worded this, guess the discussion is why or has anyone console gamed for a while but come back to PC gaming? Or mix both console and PC gaming, or just PC game and would never touch a console?

I’m wondering why I play console games for the first few years of a consoles life but eventually return to the roots of what I love, and that’s PC gaming..

Trying to be diplomatic, ended up blogging instead of discussing.. Erm carry on chaps…

I was the same mate, PC user between about 98' - 2004, at that point I couldn't afford all the new 'ZOMG 512MB' GPUs and whatnot so I switched to 360 and PS3. :p

Have to say, in my opinion the 360 is far superior to the PS3, Xbox Live shows as well when comparing P2P with F2P, Xbox Live was so much better than PSN, and had so much more to offer on the Marketplace. All I miss is the versatility of owning them both with all the exclusives (whoever was the first to make a game excuse deserves AIDS).

Then I came back to PC this year, which IMO is a good year to do so as you can get very good hardware for very cheap (HD6850 for £90 anyone? :p) and all of the games coming out are about 2007 quality due to the consoles so it isn't a problem running any of them (some are just terrible ports though, the 360 is an AMD machine yet From Software completely ****ed up porting Dark Souls from it, go figure...).

The cheap games is a beauty, and the ability to try every single game before you buy is another advantage. Don't care about FPS as anything above 30 is smooth as butter (when I see people complain that some games won't go above 60fps it makes me laugh). Looking back at the consoles though, even impressive titles like God of War III and Gears of War III etc. look ugly as hell. Technically they look nice with the lighting, shaders, character designs/meshes but the low resolution textures, lack of AA/AF and upscaled internal resolutions show horribly after experiencing a lot of PC gaming.

Only thing not annoys me about this platform is Dragon's Dogma. I used to be the biggest Capcom fanfag on the planet until that came out, apparently the PC isn't a powerful enough platform and isn't capable of the kind of netcode Dragon's Dogma required for it to be viable to release it, biggest ******** I ever heard, right after the Street Fighter x Tekken DLC fiasco too...

Never could understand why people treat the two platforms as if they're mutually exclusive. I mean, I don't have a console because I can't justify having a second gaming machine when almost everything I want to play is on here as well, but if I had the cash to burn I'm sure I'd play a bit of both.

I guess maybe you either get caught up on all the PC perks or the ease of use on a console.

I guess I see no downside to PC gaming rather then console gaming, the 360 pad works a charm and it's simple enough to hook the PC up to the TV, so I get the best of both worlds.

Steam makes things super convenient for my game shopping needs and I often just wait for the sales to kick in to make the majority of my purchases which works out pretty cheap too!

On a PC I get to play FPS games and MMO's with keyboard and mouse, the way I like to play them. However I always have the option to crash out on the sofa and play some console port like Dark Souls or Darksiders on the TV, all with better graphics as well!

I have 'everything' (reasonable spec PC, PS3, XB360, Wii) and basically what happens is this:

-98% of gaming done on PC
-PS3 used primarily as BD player with a bit of GT5 / FIFA (haven't touched games in months). Got a bunch of unopened games for it (MGS4, NHL11, etc). Have at least tried a few other games though (Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, SF4 etc)
-XB360 I got in a cheap package deal with 6 games a couple of years back, the only game I've played is PGR4. I say "cheap package deal", the reality is that it has probably worked out at paying £130 to play PGR4 for a few hours :)
-Wii comes out sometimes when we have friends round, usually need to replace the batteries first. Again a few unopened games like Mario Galaxy, Zelda Twilight Princess etc.

Now here is where it gets interesting, over the past couple of months I've started using an XB360 controller to play some PC games like Assassin's Creed series, and it has worked out better than expected. It is making me think, OK, maybe I should look at playing a bit more on console.

One of the major factors keeping me off consoles is, ironically, convenience! PC gaming for me is more convenient because I use my PC regularly and can just firre up a game alongside web browsing etc. Whereas Console gaming can be a bit of a hassle:

-Can't use main TV at the same time (wife may be watching something)
-Often when I try to play a game on PS3 the system needs an update, and then the game needs an update which takes ages on my 4mbit line - again ironic because I've seen many people complain about how much hassle PC gaming is... yet because my consoles don't get used much, they need updating every time I try to use them!
-Would have to figure out how to plug headphones into the amp when playing late at night after wife has gone to bed
-XB360 doesn't do wireless so I have to run a log RJ45 cable to the router on another floor

One thing I am contemplating is bringing a console upstairs to the office so I can play it alongside my PC on secondary monitor, not sure how good it would look in 720p on a 1680x1050 screen though.
