Coming into a fair bit of money and new build

My mother has passed away and I'm due to get everything. Of course I'm thinking new system. Should I buy now or just wait for all new new stuff in 6 months?

Im very sorry to hear about your mum. Terrible to lose a parent.

Personally I would wait a while, we are very close to new GPU’s, new socket from Intel with a whole new CPU family etc.

Unless you are in a specific rush of course.

There will also likely be more news on the new AM5 CPU’s coming later this year too. And my condolences for your loss, I lost my Dad in January, it wasn’t easy on us or my Mum but we’re doing OK.

Currently still using a 6700k and 1080ti. No real rush it's just the impatient child in me really
If you don't want to wait, you can get a decent upgrade on those parts without spending loads.

4070 Super or 7900 GRE are around twice as fast as your 1080 Ti and anything equivalent to or better than a Ryzen 7600 or i5-13600K is a big upgrade on your current CPU.

I'd consider moving to AM5 with a nice platform update, B650/Ryzen 7600/32gb etc, get yourself a nice new case and PSU etc, maybe a new monitor.

See how you get on with the 1080ti, AM5 will be knocking around for a few years yet so it's hardly a waste. Sure, new AMD CPU's are coming out but your uplift will be huge and you can still hop on the gen after in a couple of years.

There's always something better coming...

Not to put you off but everytime I upgrade, I'm always a little underwhelmed. When I went from an athlon 64 to a i5-2500K I was blown away but not had that step change since....although perhaps I upgrade too often to notice!

Id hang fire for the new AM5 boards, probably faster ram support then either bang a 7800x3d in it or wait for the 9000 series x3d.
