coming up nearly 2 weeks since i built my pc, and overclocking is getting the better of me lol i really want to see if i got a good overclocking chip, even though i have not had the need to overclock yet i would like to know what my cpu is like as they are all different for OC'ing from what ive read.

ive got the intel i5-4670K and gigabyte h3dp motherboard with the Patriot Venom Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory

just been trying to find a guide to follow, does these setting seem ok to you guys for following for my 1st overclock?

cool, i would aim for 4ghz-4.2ghz with that cooler maybe squeeze 4.4ghz if your happy with the temps... as long as you have a decent chip.

drinking and overclocking sounds like a perfect night to me haha

just doing a stress test on prime95 at stock setup and at full load im getting a max temp of 58oC, the max the cpu cooler fan is getting upto is 1200rpm and intake and exhaust fans are not spinning much, does this sound ok? if im hitting 58oC at stock if i overclock to say 4.2ghz its going to get really hot do u think? (not sure i done the greatest job seating the cpu cooler to the cpu with the thermal paste?) or are these temps normal/ok?

thanks doom, i will attempt an overclock some time today/evening just going to watch a few more video's and read up more on gigabyte boards and will have an attempt, interested now if im a lucky one that has got a good over clocking chip

thanks just going to go into UEFI now and have a look at the XMP's mate, so haswell will like the faster speed then im guessing as opposed to the 1600mhz its been running on by default? sorry for all the qeustions, i should really start a new thread under ram for this

No worries, I was the same. :)

It was more the fact Sandy//Ivy didn't like Fast RAm too much, it made very little differnce, whereas fast RAM with Haswell makes the difference it should have.. (if you see my point). :)

As you sticks are rated at 2400mhz you should be able to set them to that without any concerns. :)

great stuff doom :)

just been into the XMP and the option it is on at the moment is disabled then i have one other XMP named "profile 1" where it ups the mhz from 1600mhz to 2400mhz :) and also the DDR voltage ups from 1.5v to 1.65v so i think it will be best where im haswell to set it under the "profile 1" XMP i think.... lol

well i have now changed the CPU clock ratio from 34 to 40 = 4.0ghz
and i changed the CPU VCORE from auto to normal, the CPU VCORE is set to 1.059v

everything booted up normal, so going to run prime95 and see what this setup is like under full load, will post results...

Well i just performed a stress test using prime95, run it for 13 mins and the max temp i got was 68oC @ 4.0ghz, does that sound ok? its now at idle of around 28oC-30oC... by the way i got 0 errors, oh and my cpu cooler spun faster than it has before at a max of 1391RPM's out of a total of 1600RPM's, the intake and exhaust fans never really seem to kick in any faster then about 650rpm at full load either?

here is the data while i was testing via prime95...

Its a safe temp but still seems a bit high for you overclock.. Hmmm..

Have you set a PWM Freq for you're fan or just plugged it in on 100%?

Id see if you can get it running at 1600RPM if i were you.

interesting....

i have set nothing for the fans buddy, simply plugged it in, but its never on 100% it sometimes shuts off to 0rpm sometimes and goes faster when needed...

so how would i go about running the cpu cooler fan at max 1600rpm then?

bit worried now lol i might go back to stock 3.4ghz till im a bit more clued up on OC'ing... lol

edit, just seen the PWM on HW monitor, they all read 0 how would i adjust them then, you can see it on the screen print i linked above

i cant seem to get my multiplier down now? in UEFI its 34 but on CPU-Z its showing x8.0 (8 - 38) so that 3.8ghz right>? i dont understand it, cant seem to get it back to stock 3.4ghz even tho in UEFI its showing 34 :( also my idle temps use to be 20-25oC before i messed about now its idle is around 26-30oC??? ive even put UEFI to default but still nothing?
