Command & Conquer 3 installation woes

Today on a whim I decided to buy C&C3 deluxe edition from a high street game retailer as it was only a tenner. This is a new sealed copy not 2nd hand by the way. Anyway I go to install it and it refuses to install as it says the serial number is invalid. I've checked, double checked, triple checked and checked again and the number I've entered from the back of the manual is 100% correct, yet it still says it's invalid and won't let me install.

Two questions, (a)how can this be if it's a new, still sealed copy (it even has that fresh game smell) and (b) has anybody had this before.

To top the lot, I can't even find the option on EA support for this problem.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like someone has gone through the box and used the key already maybe?

I thought C&C 3 was meant to be pretty average anyways so maybe you got lucky there haahh.

two v's - vv instead of a w?

i instead of a 1

i instead of a l

The second one's caught me out before.

After trying yet again, and getting the same result (invalid code) I gave up. EA haven't got back to me, so I took it back to the store and was pleasantly surprised to get a full refund.
