Command line batch jpeg compression

I want to be able to recompress folders of jpegs on a debian server from the command line.

Any help would be great, thanks

(the pictures are from cameras that are not very highly compressed and are taking up too much space)

Irfanview has a batch conversion tool. It also seams it can be dirven from the command line.

I would imagine you can use wildcards (*).

ImageMagick, not sure if it's included as standard in deb but it's just an apt-get away.

I've apt-get'ed imagemagick but am having difficulty finding a command that just recompresses - many of them rescale but I don't want to reduce the resolution, just increase jpeg compression

Use convert with -quality

Thanks - I ended up using mogrify -quality 75 *.jpg

I didn't want the old bloated files hanging round
