I want to setup an auto download of a mail box that works at the command line (so that I can administer it remotely and because my CentOS wont load X windows).

Suggestions??

But can they be set to run in the background or by cron or similar?

It's supposed to be an email repository where a copy of everyone's emails goes to, so it needs to automatically download the contents otherwise they'll overflow.

Thanks for the help, I went for getmail in the end as the internet told me to and I'm frightened of disobeying it as it knows all.

I'm looking into a way of transparently compressing the mail folders as they have already grown to freakish proportions and I'm worried that it'll reach a Logan's Run style crisis and the computer will become confused and explode.

Does anyone have experience with Squirrel Mail? I was wondering if it was happy to run from the command line with remote administration via a web portal.

squirrel mail's main config is only run via the command line, there isn't much in the way of gui editing or anything on it.

its just a perl script you can run with the basic options, and then u access it via a web browser, so it needs apache with php installed to use it.

it is also possible to get various addons to allow you to config parts of it via the web interface
