cmd+scroll just slows down scrolling for me

I guess you don't have Leopard then?

Command + Two Finger Scroll = zoom in on anything then move with single finger

Control + Two finger scroll does nothing

I do have leopard on a macbook pro, and ctrl-scroll is how I do that

I use CTRL and scrolling to zoom on mine.

You can edit the key to do it somewhere iirc.
