I just had a command window open and a few things write to the window, couldn't tell you what as it happened so quick then the window closed. Not sure if this was a legit piece of software updating or windows 10 applying an update. Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen recently. I know the computer applied some updates yesterday when I shut down. Hopefully it wasn't a virus.

Does the command window store a log file somewhere of commands that have been run?

You can check the Event viewer to see if the popup was connected to the update.

Press the Windows key and the R key. In the run command type eventvwr and click ok.

On the left click Windows logs - Setup. Check to see if the upadte time is the same as the popup.

If you are concerned about malware it would also be useful to run a scan with MalwareBytes, just to be sure.

Thanks guys, think I've found the cause.

Between 'Application' and 'System' logs in the Event Viewer I have a number of events for MsiInstaller and a new service installed event, both relating to Crash Plan backup software.

Just running a full scan in Kaspersky but I think the above findings satisfy me that the timings of these coincide with when the command window popped up.
