I've killed the BIOS, don't know exactly how it occurred, during an update it just halted and didn't move in, no keys would get me back to the command promt, so I had to switch it off in the end. Resulting in it not booting / black screen.

It's an award BIOS, I guess they've got this dump the BIOS on a floppy disk and switch it on and it'll flash that. Anyone know more info?

I've searched google and there's a few sites but details seem a bit sketchy and nothing recent. I assume there's no way to do it via a CD? I ask as it sits there and looks like a it's reading the disc for a moment, although I can't remember if that's just part of the drives power on self-test.

Any help would be great!
 
I don't know about USB but CD definately was in the boot order as i'd installed Windows the previous day from a DVD. I'll have a read of your links, thanks for the quick reply.
 
I don't suppose the recovery process supports USB floppy drives does it anyone? As all i've got is a USB one. I'll have to buy a slimlne floppy drive and ribbon cable if I do have to use a 'built in' floppy.

I tried the cd method but I don't know if it's formatted right or i've used the right syntax in autoexec.bat or if it's even possible, it's a really exact science as you've got no feedback on the display.

I've found a USB floppy so i'm about to try that, wish me luck! :rolleyes:
 
After managing to get a floppy drive and a floppy disk! I've slapped Dos622 on there and the autoexec.bat (exactly the same syntax as you suggested Diggsy) along with flasher and BIOS. It seems to boot, as it does a lot of reading from the disk, it must be reading for about 90 seconds. Although i've left it 5 minutes then cycled the power and I still get the beeps and no display so it obviously hasn't worked.. :mad:
 
I did think the board was toast, but it lives again! It didn't work a second time I tried it so I decided to rem out the line in autoexec.bat and do it blind..

Anyway seemed to be reading for ages, then there was a beep, then another, then a few more, finally a few short beeps, and it rebooted! WOO HOO

So for future reference it does work from a USB Floppy disk! :D
