After loads of reading and web searching, I've come up with the following:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-127-IN)

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI)

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) (MY-092-CS)

Leadtek GeForce 7900 GS 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-089-LT)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 400GB ST3400620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-083-SE)

Just about hitting my budget with this spec. I'll be keeping my Antec SL450P PSU (+SATA and PCI-E power convertors), Pioneer DVD writer and Audigy 2 ZS. Video editing and gaming are top of the priority list.

Please comment as appropriate.

Thanks!

I would swap the ram for the

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

and maybe go for a,

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI.

Everything else looks fine, although i would drop to an e6300, get and arctic cooler 7 pro, and overclock that bad boy!

Yep those were some other possible options I looked at. The main reason for getting Corsair is that i've always bought from them and have found each purchase as reliable as the next. Same goes for Nvidia. I've been let down in the past by Radeons.

I have a think about those a little more before buying though.

cheers :)

Yeah, at the end of the day the memory/graphics are pretty similar, all though the geil has faster timings and the x1800 is great value for money.

The main thing i would do is get the e6300 and overclock it. The e6400 and e6300 reach the same speed pretty much and the extra 1x multiplier doesent make much of a difference to the overall speed achievable.

I agree, if you are getting good RAM you should be fine. I believe the E6400 is good if you have lesser ram and have to run on a divider, at which point the multiplier can help you get a little higher.
