I was going to post this in another thread, but thought it deemed worthy enough of having it's own.

I'd like to make this clear, this thread is aimed at no one user in particular just generally aimed at everyone.

It's getting flipping ridiculous now, every other thread in this forum is turning into a "you said this is crap", "no I didn't, but you said this was crap"... Can't we just talk about the darned games without all this petty fighting going on?

To the Underbosses - rise above the pettiness of others and if you see others doing this stuff do your job and sort it out or report it to a Don. A few times I have seen the mods on this forum being drawn into petty fights in threads, set an example and don't start arguing with the same few over and over again.

When people are talking about the latest and greatest game, it's getting so monotonous having to trace through pages of arguments and petty posts to find an honest genuine post.

It's getting to a point where us people who just enjoy gaming on all platforms

a) Don't want to make a comment saying "I'll get it on X..." or "I'll get it on Y" because no matter which one we choose - some idiot will claim we've made the wrong choice or that we're only saying we'll get it on X because we hate Y.

b) Don't want to read some of the threads they'd otherwise have valid input for, or be interested in, because of the childishness.

It's clear who some of the main offenders are day in and day out, post after post whether they intend to or not are creating a stir in almost every thread they visit. If you've got nothing good to say about a game or a thread, just don't bother reading it, don't bother posting in it.

People, when posting - realise that everyone has their own choice as to what console they buy and what games they buy on their console. Simply because they've chosen to buy your favourite game on your least favourite console isn't enough to start calling them a fool or otherwise.

Realise that just because you say the PS3 is the best console doesn't mean your correct - similarly just because others say the 360 or the Wii is the best doesn't mean they're correct either.

Remember that there are those users on this forum who only have enough cash to have one console. Which one they've chosen really is none of your business, and if it isn't the one you've got - I'm sure they're not going to lose any sleep over it.

On the other hand remember that some users here are lucky enough to own all three. But just because they've chosen to buy the latest and greatest game on a platform different to you - is no reason to start spouting trash and claiming "Well I knew you'd buy it on that console, you always do! SHOCK HORROR! FAN BOY ALERT!"

The answer is clear, if the same people are always causing trouble - suspended them. If they come back and do it again - revoke their privileges to this section of the OcUK Forums. If they create a stir elsewhere then ban them. Believe me, I'm sure we'd all be glad to see the back of a few.

Finally, I'd just like to say people... just chill out in general. This forum is a friendly place, easily one of the best forums on the internet for many of us. For a lot of us the OcUK Forums are our internet home, and having it defaced everywhere we look is quite a kick in the teeth.

Remember that other peoples opinions are valid, that you're not always correct and that other users visit these forums too.

You act like I don't report nonsense, I do, but there is very little Don presence in consoles and as an UB my only forum power is Private Messaging.

What I do, do is defend myself, nothing more, nothing less. The amount of times people try to twist stuff that I've said is quite alarming, yet they never actually quote me. So I like to clear the air. However you make it sound like I start baiting games which couldn't be further from the truth.

Believe me, there are about 7 posters on here I would like to bang their heads together, sadly, without any Don presence it keeps happening.
 
I which case Nokkon perhaps we need a new Don in this section.

Nokkon I realise you're not baiting anybody into fights or whatever, as I said it was a sweeping generalisation of everyone in these forums over the last few months. I totally agree with you that you're views (like many others) get taken the wrong way, in fact I happen to agree with you opinion wise on most games - so I know your not talking out of your arse :p
 
To be fair to Nokkon, it was the same situation when I was an UB a couple of years back. I reported nearly everything that broke the rules, but the same problems re-occurred continuously. New Dons aren't the answer unless you have one that is dedicated to only this forum, and is active the majority of the day.

As long as you have open registrations, fanboys will be part and parcel of computer game talk on the internet.
 
The complete retards that flood this place with crap are the reason I don't post here any more.

Edit: Just for clarification I don't post in consoles any more, I still post in GD, Motors and PC forums.

A regular don in here might help but they'd need to be as passionate about games as the posters here and excluding Werewolf, I can't think of any dons like that :/

I think that's been the general consensus around here for years. :p.
It actually does bloody well as it is. We have 3 Dons looking after it, 2 very good Dons and a truly excellent Admin in Werewolf, but it's safe to say they don't moderate this section as tough as some of the others (such as GD) for several reasons:

a) As you mentioned, the arguments are incredibly petty and some of the people here are nothing short of pathetic with their comments, so coming in here is more like hard work than a pleasure for a Don.

b) They don't have an interest in Games anyway.

c) They don't have the knowledge of the games industry or market so can't understand a lot of the negative, bitchy comments and they seem to pass through the net.

d) A lot of the comments that stir people aren't that bad, so on a one of viewing it doesn't appear bad, but more people over-reacting, but they don't see it said again and again, nor do they see the people who are just trying to do it for a rise out of someone.

You can't really blame someone from the outside for a lack of presence really, at times people do act like children and it's becoming tiresome and that's not down to the Dons, that's down to the posters. People could report posts and help out, but they don't do it enough.

I honestly dont think its any worse than its been before. In fact a year or so ago it was much worse, threads were completely unchecked and turned into bizarre slanging matches.

We did have DaveyPitch a few years back, he was a Don wasn't he? Bloomin' passionate about games as well.

I wasn't aware that the three we have moderating this section aren't exactly suited for it. That said you don't have to be the most passionate person about gaming to realise some of the arguments in this place are being caused by the same people flaming others for no reason - that just takes common-sense surely?

If we truly are lacking in this department then why not nominate some new UB's and promote a gaming passionate UB to Don then? Such as yourself, if you would do it of course.

Personally, I just tend to not read nor post in some threads. Remember you do have an ignore feature on here, use it (I only have one person in my list atm), it saves a lot of frustration ;)

I've been a on many many forums over the years, and have been a moderator on several. So I know what a tough job moderating a forum is (although this is tiny in comparison to some I've been a mod on).

The only advice I can give, is rise above it - if you see a post that annoys you, close your browser and have 5 AFK. If you see someone baiting you, chuckle to yourself and move on to the next thread ;)
 
Amen, I think we need a new don in here. Not because the current ones are doing a bad job but I feel we need a don who is focussed more in this section of the forum, it's more active than most and requires a very active presence.

Thanks, yeah believe me I know the ignore feature is there but unfortunately these pillocks that flame everywhere do occasionally make a decent thread.

I've admined and moderated some busy forums myself before, so I totally agree it's not easy to keep on top of things when things get busy. I've just browsed the mods recent post lists and it would seem Zefan is the only one who has posted in here in the last few months.

Of course this doesn't mean they're not reading the threads and checking this forum - but your first impression is that the two would be related.

Other than that I'd say heed Nokkon's advice and RTM the post as well.
 
I definitely think we need a new don, I'm the best candidate. My final solution will exterminate all PS3 fanboys meaning the Xboxian race will reign supreme and there won't be any more conflict or troubles ever again. The perfect forum community. Filthy PS3 fanboys are the source of all our troubles and so they must be eliminated.

It would probably stop most of the bickering I guess, as the PC and Consoles split did a fair bit.

There would be way too many duplicate threads though if I'm honest. Not a great solution.
 
I dont think it would either, I think you'd see the 360 fanboys and ps3 fanboys going into each others sections and causing trouble.

I really think the only solution, short of fanboyism being a capital offense is stronger moderating.
