Comments on my new website please

Not a fan of the gradient footer - looks a bit bloated and fat.

Something a bit more straighter cut might look better - perhaps continuing the red theme in the banner/header.

Bar that, I think it looks pretty tidy.
 
Gradients blending up, down and both ways. I don't know where to look... there is no 'focus'.

Simple Photoshop textures = early 90s. Use of colours is very unoriginal, also.

Visit a dedicated CSS Design site, get some inspiration and start again. Do some Photoshop tutorials and learn some new tricks.

I'm sorry, there is nothing I like about it.

Don't take too much notice of these very harsh comments. It seems unless you have the perfect CSS website you get crucified here.

In my book as long as something is fairly nice looking the average user will not care. It's all about content, get that top notch and you'll have more visitors.

No one here as even commented on his coding of the site, I haven't even viewed the source yet.

I would agree with the others though, in terms of the images used (such as the footer) are too out going, and the gradient background does not really work too well.

However, the sites layout (i.e how you navigate around it) is nice.

I remember 2 years ago when I started website making (trying to make clan websites for gaming), I was also a fan of making the site purely out of photoshop with gradients etc. At the time they looked good, but now I prefer clean crips layouts which complement each other nicely.

Hat off to you though, you have created this from scratch without asking to be spoon fed HTML and CSS like some on here as of late.

Have ago on paper or in a image manipulation program of throwing some designs together, see what colours compliment each other and what not.

Viewed some of your movies and they are very nicely made.
 
Well as far as the HTML/CSS coding goes it is perfect according to W3 Schools Validator, I think if I just change the footer and background gradient it'll look a whole lot better, any other changes I can make?

It's a bit too dark and 90's grunge looking in my opinion. I think firstly you might want to use a border (maybe white) round the whole content to break up the mass of gradients. The grey to black gradient looks a bit plain but I'm not sure now how you could improve it. The logo needs a bit of work, not necessarily the bevels and shininess but the background, red can stay but it just looks gritty, which isn't all that appealing.

I'm not slating your website saying that, it's all pointers from my own opinion, I might throw up a template using your original css soon to show you what I'd make out of my ideas. :)
 
Cheers Tom, I'm going to have another play around with some more ideas in terms of colour and the background etc, I'm going to keep the layout the same though as I think it works well for the site
 
Nice things:
Background gradient
Rollover navigation
Gradient in content area
General layout
Red texture is ok I think, its unusual

Less nice:
Too busy, too many gradients
I'm not a huge fan of the silver metallic looking text
Colours perhaps
Footer is fat

I think the colours are ok. You've kept a core group of colours (white/black) and used red for a bit of flair. I'd remove some of the gradients, and make the footer more subtle. Sort the logo out as well, something more modern.

Also maybe pad the site down from the top of the browser, as at the moment with the lack of content, it sticks soley at the top of the brower. So if you do that, then you wouldn't be left with as much of a gap at the bottom.
 
I would agree Tom, I think it's hard to pull off a site with dark colours. Probably why all my sites have been kind of pastal colours.
 
Cheers for that, gives me a few ideas to play around with, when I designed the site I was going for an industrial gritty look to make it different from all the other css sites out there that all look similar to each other, think I'll try using some brighter colours though

I really, really like that mate! Superb job. I think that works perfectly. Nice colours and textures, nice rollover. Bit of character. Only thing is that crosshatched background, not such a fan of that. Maybe a lighter, more subtle floral design like the red.
 
off topic - i see you have been to florida recently, Lights, Motor, Action was a sweet ass ride, can't beleive how those people remembered exactly where to go everytime.

better say something before this post is classed as spam, nice website, i've just been doing my first websites this week so i know how hard making a website can be.

You want to come out here, life in China is bloody interesting and unique. Damn, I'm never going back home. :p

On topic, I'm sorry to have been so harsh but I'm sure you'd prefer it if I didn't lie and just told you the truth, as I did. Design is the most difficult part of website development. Every time I come up with something, I hate it then start over.

Yes, it's a very tricky thing web development. Standards are changing and evolving all the time.
