Upgrade time again, and this time around I have decided to take a crack at a self build. I would really appreciate any comments on this specification for what is principally intended as a gaming rig?

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Socket LGA775, 4MB, BOXED w/fan
- ABIT IL9 PRO, Intel 945P, Socket-775, ATX, SATAII, DDR2, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
- Corsair 2GB DDR2 Value Select PC5300 Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB) (VS2GBKIT667D2)
- BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music 7.1 Soundcard
- Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache
- Samsung SpinPoint T HD501LJ 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
- Samsung SH-W183 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter
- Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply
- Thermaltake VB1000SNS Soprano SuperMidi Tower

All comments and reflections welcome – thank you :)

Welcome to the forums. I'd suggest a Asus P5N-E 650 SLi as it is still relatively cheap but overclocks well and is solid. I'd agree about changing the Ram. I'd maybe change the PSU to a Corsair HX 620w as it is modular and built to very high quality standards based on Seasonic designs.

Finally what resolutions do you play at? It could be that the GTX is overkill at present. :)

Thanks for the welcome and your feedback. I’ve been playing DDO a lot recently and would like to max out the resolution and textures. I understand that animations (particularly spells) really max out so I am trying to give as much headroom as possible. The other consideration was for a DirectX 10 compatible card.

I agree about the PSU... either the 520w or 620w Corsair HX will do fine... 620w is better of course ;)

Regarding the Motherboard.... The board you mention is probably a better choice than the one in your original spec. Also consider the DS3 as it is known to be good if overclocking.

8800 GTS / GTX card's are great.... ;)

Excellent recommendation on the Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 mother board. Do you know where I would get a copy of the manual by any chance - the Asus site only lists a P5N32-E SLI series – is this the same mobo do you know?
