hello all

Been sometime since I browsed these forums with avengence. While my trusty NF7S-2/2500 rig is still going stong, thanks in large part to the wealth of knowledge and help on these forums. Its time for an update.

After looking around a little much has changed it seems! Anyway I was looking at the following as the base components for an upgrade.

Asus A8N32-Sli/Abit AN8-32x skt 939 mobo
AMD athlon 3700+ SD
Corsair 2gb xms3200c2pt

I'm looking to overclock but not to any huge extent. I would welcome any suggestions on the above, other components to consider, expected clocks etc. I'll probably be going with air cooling.

I've got that RAM... it's fantastic :) As for the MoBo, i've recently converted from ASUS to ABIT (kept breaking my A8N-SLi) And I have to say the ABIT (KN8-SLi) is miles better than the ASUS for the same price...

just my opinion, and i've heard some very good things about the A8N32 :)

For overclocking, get a DFI, there's none to rival them :p. The ABIT will have more options than the ASUS, but will be slightly less stable (and there's more to screw up)

Good choice of processor... the 3700+ is a nice little clocker, not quite the 3000+ in terms of % gain, but it's a faster core anyhow.

What GFX are you considering?

That's a fine selection of components but I'd seriously consider an AM2 based PC if you're buying new memory as well as Socket 939 will be phased out

GFX no idea but under £150

Decided to go with the Asus board and the rest as above.

Any links to O/C threads for this much appreciated in particular mem timings, volts etc.

Might even go watercooling this time, Swiftech H20-220 looks nice.

Thanks guys

If you can stretch to £164 inc VAT get the X1800XT 256MB. Amazing card, amazing value

If not get a 7600GT/X1800GTO. I would seriously consider the extra £14 for the XT though as it's a fair bit quicker than either of those cards

Second that!

Sold, I'll just sell one of my children for the extra cash

EDIT:

There is a great thread I've been reading on the A8N-SLI, does a lot of that information translate to the A8N32 board as they appear to be almost identical?

Also Coolmaster stacker 830 v Silverstone Temjin TJ07?
