Comments on spec - PC has to last a while!

560ti is worse in more areas than it is better, but it does win in a few areas. For the price difference you can't complain, though.

:D

I was bored enough to count. Ignoring negligible differences it won 16 times, and lost 18 :p

Won quite a few of the negligible differences however.

Doesn't really matter though, for £40 cheaper its the better card :p

Have you considered getting a 120hz monitor?

Even if you are going ATI, if you're building for the machine to last a while, ATI's HD3D will show up in more mainstream at some point...

No I haven't. I must admit that I think the whole 3D thing at the moment to be a bit of a gimmick, but I suspect that technology adavnces will prove me wrong!!

120Hz panels with ATI/AMD are potentially problematic - works ok for some people others have a lot of issues - and I wouldn't bet on H3D becoming anything worthwhile in any kinda vague near future timeframe.

Stereo 3D gaming is definitely something you want to try before buying into and on balance of probability for most people is something they'll maybe use for the first couple of weeks and barely touch after that for a number of reasons.

Definitely make the investment of the xfx 850 black, it's an awesome Seasonic unit. It will leave you well covered for crossfired 6950s with a nice amount of headroom to spare. Should last for ages and probably outlive almost all of the other components.

My main question is whether an SSD is an essential. You could make some worthwhile upgrades to the other parts the that cash. The PSU above, a better case with proper cooling and a better monitor, all of which could be had for the same cost.

After reading all the reports about SSDs and the significant speed advantages, I couldn't resist! I'd certainly rather have a good enough monitor and SSD than a standard HDD and a better monitor.

On the case, I said in my original post that due to my desk I can't have a case taller than 430mm - after spending time looking through the specs the Coolermaster 430 seemed to be the best bet, all the other usual suspects were too tall.

Kit arrives on Monday or Tuesday - can't wait!
