What you reckon? It is going to be my first HTPC build.

It is going to be in my living room. I have virgin media so i do not need a tv card. The htpc mainly used for watching HD movies and surfing the web.

Any other part(s) im missing?
Is the cpu cool enough to run without a fan? Noise is a big factor.
Is the cpu fast enough to watch 1080p movies?

CPU is easily fast enough, and you would easily get away with the stock cooler as they run so damn cool, mine usually idles around 28-30ºc and thats clocked to 3.3GHz.

Secondly, will the Scythe actually FIT in the case? I'd just leave it out tbh and use the stock cooler.

Rest of the spec looks ok, but remember that if you want it to play HD-DVD/BluRay in the future, EVERYTHING needs to be HDCP compliant, so you may be best off spending the CPU cooler money on an HDCP compliant card (HD2400?).

That is to big, had the some problem when building my media center using the Nsk 2400 which is basicaly the some case different front.
Went for the Thermalright SI 120 with 120mm front on top just fits.

I bought a samsung hard drive for my htpc but found it pretty noisey.Always clicking, tried the acoustic management to reduce the noise, but it had no affect

In the end i bought a Hitachi Deskstar and this is near slient once you reduce the sound via acoustic management.Same goes for my old seagate...

the mobo has HDCP, does that automatically mean its HDCP compliant?

ill change the hd and fan, thanks for the heads up.

regarding to the cpu, it is only about £10 extra for 2ghz. Is it cooler to get that and underclock it?
