I think your overspending for a general pc it's a decent spec for sure but you could easily bring that down or even reshuffle to make a family/gaming build .

Is that something you would like to look into ?

Ok I put something together as a comparison , this would be a good family pc while also gaming at 1080p. This can be changed if not interested in gaming but you and the grandson could have hours of fun gaming together.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £821.94 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Many thanks for the suggestions..I'll have a think. Thanks again.

AM5 would be nicer. A 7600 costs about 200ish and a £35 Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit would cool it without ever getting loud. Just need a good airflow case. If you like the design from Corsair, some deals around their 4000d airflow case including the 750W PSU.
Legal Windows 11 key cost me under £4 for a new machine. Same for Microsoft Office 2021 license.
The money you save allows for a solid case, good fans.
Montech offers some cheaper cases with decent fans.
I would suggest:
AM5 7600
MSI Tomahawk B650
Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120mm
Lian Li Lancool 216, Corsair 4000D Airflow, Lian Li O11 Air Mini, or any other case with good airflow.
Case fans is where you can overspend and buy poor fans or pay for top performance. If you get a good case, the money you saved not getting an AIO, can pay for a pack of 3 Phanteks T30. Give any good case 3 x T30 and a good air cooler and you’re gold.
Thanks v much for suggestions..I'll need to consult grandson :-) Thanks again.

Save yourself £100 quid and buy a windows key no one buys retail keys.
Thanks for that info. I havn't researched this but can I buy a widows 11 key for the pc ive totally dismantled and plan to replace with all new bits? The Windows that is/was with it was v8.1..is that ok to replace with windows 11?..or should I start from scratch as though new pc and new windows?

No it means you download wins 11 which is free load it onto a usb drive to install and buy a windows 11 key .

Google it.

We can only advise but in the end it's your choice , it won't perform very well if your gaming but you just need to add a decent graphics if the future.

Enjoy.
Thanks , You have been v helpful. cheers
