Hi,

you can read my other post if you want. I am in the middle of a dilema on whether to get another 5770 and crossfire or sell my existing and get a better 5850 or even maybe a 5870.

However I've never crossfired before so other than reading the occasional one gpu is better than x-fire postings on here, I'm just not sure what to expect.

As a pro, the tests below seem VERY PROMISING

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...cs_hd5750.html

However they don't list all the quirks that people experience in the real world of crossfiring..

So this post is to those who have crossfired, did you regret it? if so why? did you spend all your time fixing quirks instead of playing the games?

After my experience with the 4870x2, I vowed to never go for a dual gpu card/crossfire setup ever again. Don't get me wrong, it was a great card but there are just too many little niggles that make it not worth the hassle.
If I were you, I'd sell the card and get a 5870.

Well I'm talking about a lot games not supporting it, some games actually running worse than they would with one card unless you turn crossfire off. Microstutter, that constant sort of "bad analogue reception" waves on the screen you get when crossfire is running. Having to check that both cards are enabled every time you update the drivers and having to make sure that crossfire is working on games. Having to test crossfire on and off with every new game and comparing performance. It's just a hassle. Ever since I went back to a single gpu, using my computer has been a lot more fun :D

I use Crossfire with 2 x 4890s. It is a chore sometimes. For example, Crysis doesn't auto use both cards so I have to use ATI Xtension to force it. This is the first time I have used two separate graphics cards. I did once have a 7950 which had two GPUs.

Worth it for me. I also managed to get a PhysX card working too

Cheers

What problems have you had? I've been using a 4870x2 for a while and I've not had a single problem with xfire/microstutter/etc. My only complaint is how loud the thing is in games.

edit: Just saw some of your other posts. Interesting. I must have just been very lucky then :)

God yeah, it runs really hot, I had to buy a haf 932 to keep her happy :D I was shocked when I saw how cool the 5870 runs.
Great performing card and the little niggles were just that, little niggles. Stuff like the bug in crysis warhead and then crossfire being turned off when you looked through the sights on a missile launcher, HDR going spastic on fallout 3 and having to use bloom.
All the little things just add up, like I say, great card but I was more than pleased to see the back of it when I sold it :D

Thanks guys I think I'm just going to go for a 5850 and be done with it. Though on paper the x-fire of 5770 looks more powerful, it also probably comes with more niggles, something i don't care too much for.

Fair enough - I don't play much Cryengine stuff or Fallout 3 so that's probably why I've not seen the issues :)
