Are you on CGNAT? I wonder if it is that?

Sometimes I just fancy going to a faster line as we work from home to so like **** it.. But 1gb is blazing fast when working so it's like why do I need more?

For renewing a contract, do you need to wait until the 2 years is up for a renewal, or can it be done the month before?

My 2 year contract expires in the first week of January, and currently on the 3GB plan - would like to move over to the 5GB plan for the same/cheaper price! Was hoping I can leverage any deals in the coming weeks, particularly Black Friday potentially.

I think I received an email asking what options I'd like to take about a month or maybe more before the end of the contract. Always worth contacting them to see if you can sign up before your contract ends. I've upgraded package with another ISP before my contract ended so they usually let you.

Yes, they sent me that email about a ' few options' earlier this month. This is even though my contract doesn't expire until early January, so I was a bit confused.

Might just give them a call regardless, they can only say no. Not sure whether there'll be any better deals in a few weeks for Black Friday though.

I did mine last week, two year contract was due to expire on 18th January 2026, anyway I phoned them and they gave the same two year contract and speed what I wanted but slightly cheaper price etc, so just phone them and see what deal you can get.

Has anyone noticed any weird routing issues since last night? Some connections times out; although trying again a few times works eventually. Noticing it happening with online games mostly, on PC wired and wireless devices. Current workaround is using Cloudflare's WARP but not ideal as it does increase the latency to some game servers. Have tried rebooting both the router and ONT a few times but sadly that hasn't fixed it.

On CGNAT if that matters.

Edit (29/12/25): Sent a support ticket last night. This morning started fiddling around it more. Disabling IPv6 doesn't fix it (actually feels more sluggish) so I suspect maybe something weird is going on with CGNAT. Going to leave it with IPv6 off for the day just to see how it goes, then will probably turn it back on tomorrow.

Edit 2: Still coming across some errors, example trying to update games on the Switch 2 fails since it can't reach the server, or Discord on PC unable to update since it also can't reach the update server. CF replied at least and is sending a new router, will see how that goes.

Can't say I've noticed any issues. I only really play overwatch and fall guys online, but haven't noticed any issues. I'm on 1Gb but older contract so I'm not on cgnat.

Installed the new MX5700 router and as expected, it didn't fix it. Called up support and went through a bunch of troubleshooting steps, then the technician realises it probably is CGNAT having issues. Decided to upgrade to the 2.5Gb premium package (standard is still CGNAT), then around an hour after the call CGNAT has been disabled, and connecting to online services is now working again.

It's a shame they don't offer a 1Gb package with static IP, the price gap between that and 2.5Gb premium is pretty huge, although looking at ISPs on Openreach's network, still seems to work out better.

Yeah, non higher tier packages aren't normally offered with sticky/static IP anymore. You "can" in theory get one, but you need to be assessed by CF that you have need of it and then they'll provide you with it even on the 1gb connection (and maybe even lower). It's the same for their Battery Backup UPS to power their equipment (temporarily, not as good as going all in yourself for example, but it's there and suitable for short outages), for "vulnerable" customers that qualify.

I wish they would just do like a lot of the other altnets. Just charge £5 ish for a static ip upgrade to any package you want. When my contract runs out, I will probably just take the out of contract charge for a while and consider it as a no cgnat fee. I don't really do much that cgnat would get in the way of, but at least on community fibre, cgnat seems a bit dodgy at times.

How much did that cost? Any discounts for having issues?

£43 a month. Only discount they could offer was sadly just the first month free.

It's a shame since I was on CGNAT since May after renewal and didn't really have any major issues. Only the last week where it suddenly started going downhill. It did seem to improve yesterday but I was just fed up of other potential issues it could cause. Even hotspotting to my EE connection which I'm pretty sure is also CGNAT worked fine, so there's definitely something weird with Community Fibre's implementation.
