Community Sites

Whilst browsing around the internet looking for some suitable demos to download this evening, it got me thinking :eek:

. So rather than get myself scared and confused, I thought I'd ask the folks at OcUK where they go for their gaming needs. I've been racking my brains, but I can't recall any uk based sites which have the following dedicated to gaming:

Downloads
Reviews
Community Forums
Game Servers
News

From my days of playing Counter Strike, I recall hoping across to the likes of Barrysworld which seem to accommodate just about everything I needed under one roof.

So am I missing something here?

Have I been hiding under a rock for the last few years, or do such sites no longer exists? I struggle to find reliable download sites which can compete with the service Blueyonder used to provide. Game servers only ever belong to clans and rental companies. Decent communities are very few and far between. The use of "l33t" language makes me feel old and rather depressed in all honesty. I long for a community like OcUK, but offering that little bit more than just a forum.

Please help!

I always thought Gamespot UK were pretty good, though sometimes I feel their reviews are off. They have most of what your looking for, except game servers.

Usually there are sites dedicated to a specific genre, game or series of games. For example, BeyondUnreal for Unreal series games.

Wow.....i remember barrysworld, you could go and book a server to play a match on or whatever for free.
Is there any places that even do that these days for games?

It was a really nice idea from an end users point of view, but you can understand why such things caused financial suicide for Barrysworld. I'd be amazed if there was anyone providing such a service.

If there was actually the demand for a site like that, I'd certainly consider it. But sadly I don't think there is. Most people seem happy enough with what's already out there.
