Hey guys, this is my first thread, and I'm hoping you can all give me some great advice.

I recently got offered a job in Manchester, I live in Pudsey and I was planning on commuting (by car) everyday.

Now I was wondering if anyone here has any experience of commuting from the Leeds area into Manchester, and if so what are your experiences. For example, how long does it take, volume of traffic and any other experiences?

Thanks.

Where abouts in manchester is the job?

The m62 from leeds is a nightmare in the winter if there is snow or fog. Otherwise its usually clear enough until you get to the manchester outer ring road ( M60 ).

a lot depends on how far round the ring road you have to go to get near your job, and which way round you will have to go.

Quite a few people, well 99% of people that I work with come from outside Manchester. Majority of the time they get the train in as its much easier but depends where you're working really!
Where about's is the job? Might be able to find you a nice cheap car park, there's 2 over the road from me for £1.50/£2.00 a day but depends if you are working near the north side of Manchester or not!

Trams are off at the moment as well so you have to walk/bus everywhere round town centre :)

Cheers for the advice so far.

I'll be working in an area called Blackley. It's a job with Hewlett Packard, and the building is called Hexagon Tower if that means anything to anyone. Also, the building is near North Manchester General Hospital. It's about a 15 minute drive north of the city centre.

The area itself looks pretty good to get to. AtreuS has hit the nail on the head, you will have plain sailing unless there's a bit of moisture at the top of the M62 at which point everyone forgets how to drive and as a consequence stops to remember.

What time will you be wanting to arrive? If you set off early (6pm) I don't envisage you'll have many problems. Hitting the Halifax junction any later than 7:30 is a bit of a no-no.

you'll be fine once you get here, you're barely coming off the motorway, and only one junction (maybe 2) on the m60

I think that's going to be the problem, I will usually be setting off from home at around 7/7:30.

Does anybody know if there is any train pass, or season pass that you can get which will make the train fares a lot cheaper?
