Hi

Was wondering if anyone using Comodo firewall (free) is experiencing similar problems?

Windows 7 SP1 (fully patched and up to date)
Comodo Firewall 5.5.195786.1383 (fully up to date)
AVG AV free (fully up to date)

Comodo Firewall keeps on prompting on system tray that there is a update. The following happens

* Comodo prompts that their update available.
* I initiate to allow the update to proceed.
* Update progress bar / box flashes up literally for a second
* Comodo prompts that the update is complete and prompts for reboot.
* PC fully reboots and Windows is loaded.
* Comodo prompts that their update available

This keeps on looping. The weird thing is the firewall itself is working i think it is just update part going loopy literally :) I was going to uninstall and clean install but i have a lot of application rules set as well. Which brings me on to my 2nd query. Is there anyway that i can backup the firewall application rules and reimport them onto a new install?

Reading from their forums their about to release version 5.8 as it just past beta.

Thanks in advance
Kyo

Anyone that interested,

5.8 is the brand new version of Comodo Firewall. You cannot just upgrade it from your current install.

Did a clean install and things seems to be working.

I've that issue in the past - constant update prompts.. yet when you let it update, it tells me i'm running the most up to date version :|

Manually downloading the latest version and installing it fixed it. Also disabled defense+ as that brought my system to its knees!

Yes going through that same problem now of 5.5 won't update properly to 5.8 it just repeats.
Posted on the Comodo forum along with a few others but no joy just the usual go through the motions replies from the Comodo folk.

Had a feeling i was going to end up uninstalling then downloading the 5.8 version and starting from scratch but have held back because of having to redo all the rules e.t.c.

There is a problem with their site as well. The download link isnt working properly from their homepage and if your not careful regardless what you select for the installer x64 or x86 it comes back with the wrong installer. I ended up going to a mirror to get the proper x64 installer and it work fine.

Reading from their forums. What is meant to happen is the agent gets updated and then the firewall get upgraded. That didnt happen at all so to cut a long story shortin the end it was easier to just clean install from new. Had to end up reconfiguring the app rules from scratch but it was worth it in the end because it does not auto update from 5.5.

I downloaded the 5.8 version from their site this morning and have just double checked and am running the latest 5.8.213334.2131 version so they must have fixed it.

Really surprised that their forum hasn't got more people reporting the update problem. I mean it just doesn't work...manual or auto.

Still, all done now and all reconfigured again. I was going to export the rules from 5.5 and import them to the new one but thought better of it what with it being a new version. Plus i didn't want anymore headaches.. lol.

My comodo upgraded from old to new.

Perhaps not as old as mine mate. :) I was on 5.5 but base installer was from ages past pre 4.x i think.

Read a lot of about similar problem and it in their release notes. So it does say you cant upgrade if your base is before a previous version. Also noticed that people running the full suite should be ok. Probably because mines the free service :D

This problem is now apparently fixed... well a workaround anyway. So for the benefit of those who are late to the update party shenanigans, this is what you do as posted by a Comodo mod so it updates correctly.

" It seems the updater fails to update it self cause if you would have reached the second stage it would display which files it downloads etc.

Please try the following copy the file cfpupdat.exe from \Program Files\Comodo\Comodo Internet Security\Repair folder to \Program Files\Comodo\Comodo Internet Security\
And check for updates again see if that helps solve the issue, as this has been reported by other users as a workaround. "
