hi there everyone,

i need some help or info. i just built a new comp which i will list what i have.

Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 MB.
amd athlon 64 X2 5200+ (Brisbane)
Zotac Geforce 9600 GT
4 GB ddr2 ram 800
PCI Serial ATA Host card
2 x dvd roms
Floppy
2 X Hard drives.
500 w PSU
4 case fans

Now i have Coretemp running and also smart fan running and Idle temps / internet use is anything from 30 - 45 C now when i run a game such as GOW or DOW 2 i can play anything from 20 - 30 mins and comp cuts out. when i reboot bios says cpu temp is 72 C and immediately starts to cool down.
Now my question is is my CPU damaged ? or PSU Damaged/Sufficent ?.
Any help much appreciated. Thanks James.

Check your CPU Heatsink, I would guess it hasn't been clipped down completely. I find they can be a little complicated and fiddly to make sure they are clipped down 100%. This has happened to a few of my friends before

Oh, and the reason your computer is turning itself off is because of overheating, when they reach a certain temp they cut out to prevent damage from excessive temperatures
