comp has died

Uh oooh! dont link to that bad bad site, it is against the forum rules.

Otherwise, no beeps mean either PSU or motherboard is dead (the motherboard would give u a beep if any other component was dead, so CPU, RAM, G card should all be fine, that is as long as the motherboard didnt take any of them out when it died).

Why not just get a second hand P4 motherboard? could pick one up for about £20???

ooh sorry about that didn't know :o

would a second hand mobo be a wise move? just wondered how i would know if it doesn't already have faults etc.

I've definitely got no beeps at all, it just died without any warning whatsoever.

I've repaired an emachines that had same symptoms. (3210 2.7 Ghz celeron)
Not booting light glowing on motherboard but thats it.

The motherboard they use are stript down thing to keep cost down I guess.

I put an Asrock board in it and its fine.
You'll also need a windows disc cos these emachines are cheap and come with nothing!

Thinking...I tested it all before I replaced the mobo as in switch PSU and ram.
It's normally the mobo BUT you can't guarantee it.

thanks for the advice.

I've got a friend of a friend coming sometime next week who is into computers in a big way, so hopefully between us all I'll be back up and running very soon.

I'll keep you posted ;)

well as expected it turned out to be the mobo :(

so, being guided by advice, I've sent for this:

INTEL ATX MOTHERBOARD

GRAPHICS ~ LAN ~ SOUND ~ 4 X USB

INTEL CELERON 2.6 GHz CPU

512 MB RAM

COOLER MASTER HEATSINK & FAN

This motherboard bundle is taken from a working PC and as been tested with a full Windows XP install and then had the motherboard drivers installed all with no problems.

The motherboard bundle will be sent to you with the CPU, Heatsink/Fan and the Ram already fixed into place on the motherboard so that you can place it straight into your PC case.

The bundle comes with following accessories:

I/O Backplate

CD Drivers

2 X IDE Cables

The CD Driver disc contains the latest downloaded motherboard manual and drivers.

Total cost £45

Cant wait for the postman!

Yay! :D we're back up and running sweet as a dream :D

thankfully it hadn't killed anything else so i still have all my stuff..

thanks again for all the advice people.. much appreciated xx

See, it's not hard at all to put them together (I always tell people they'll be fine as long as they can cope with one of those Fischer Price toy balls with the yellow shapes and matching holes).

It's installing windows that usually grinds me down.

Did you do fresh windows or bluff your existing one into booting the new parts? (sometimes it works and sometimes it fails spectacularly)

err.. ok i admit i cant take the credit... someone else did it for me, but i did watch and take notes!
We didn't have to re-install windows either :D

And those Fisher Price things? i never was good at those.. fuzzy felts were more my forte ;)

Oh and another thing! i don't have an e-machine anymore :D I'm now the proud owner of a Dell Dimension 2600
