Hi im upgrading my pc soon and i have a few question :)

at the moment i have:

Mobo: Asus k5n-sli
CPU: AMD x64 3700+
Gcard: Point Of View Gforce 8800GTX 320mb
Ram GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4

What im going to buy:

Mobo: Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail
Gcard: NOT SURE YET, QUESTION BELOW
Ram: Another GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 to make 4gb

My question is with the graphics card.

Should i get another 8800GTS and sli with the one i already have or should i buy: OcUK GeForce 9800 GT 512MB

also if i was to buy another 8800 would it have to be 320mb like my other one or could i get a 512mb one and still sli with my old one?

thanks

ati better than nvidia now? my last ati was a X1800 and it stopped working so i went over to nvidia and thought it was much better and i only have about £350

Ati currently are much better in the mid-high end graphics cards than nvidia.

You just need to add another set of which ever ram you have.

If you overclock better off with a wolfdale 8400 or 8500 no idea why people still recommend q6600's just look at all the q6600 users swapping to 8400/8500 and ask yourself why.

I dont think so. I am a q6600 user and do not want to swap to a dual core.

And to the OP ati pretty much wipe the floor with nvidia in the mid-high end graphics card market.

lool i dident ask any of this, all i was asking is what i should do with the graphics card

also iv used a Q6600 before and found it to be amazing

You didnt ask any of this but i tought i would give you some of advice as the nforce 650 chipset in the motherboard you choose is rubbish.

oki il change my mobo then :)

but i wanna stick with gforce. so would it be better to sli another 8800 or buy the 9800?

If you must stick with nvidia then dont get the 9800gt it is just a rebadged 8800gt. What psu have you got because the old g80's are quite power hungry?

lool i can get one on ebay...

but if i went over to ati again i would have no use for my 8800 and its still got lots of kick in the old dog yet :P id rather just add another to it

It'd be pointless to add another 320 GTS in my opinion, as others have said you'd be much better getting a 4850 or 4870. However if you must stick with nvidia, you can get 8800GTS 512's now pretty cheap, although not as fast as the current nvidias, it's faster then your current GTS.

i wasn't gunna put another 320mb one on i was gunna add a 640mb one on.. also doesn't sli just combine the 2 cards into "one" ?

The 640mb one uses the old core, so still slower than the "new" 512. And i don't know what you mean when you say combines into one? You've still got two cards? :/

That wouldnt work. you need two of the same cards,

And it doesnt just turn it into one. They are two seperate cards still, sli is a waste of time really the scaling is rubbish so you only get a 20% increase in performance. The only half decent sli chipset is the nforce 7 which is fairly expensive compared to the intel p35/p45.
