Hello im having trouble with my computer i built last xmas. when i push the power button on it goes to boot but gets so far and just stops and then repeats the proccess again, it does this for ages until sometimes it does boot up and is fine after that but sometimes im waiting for an hour for it do this so there must be somethin wrong. there is no beeps or anything from the mobo. i remember when i built the computer i had this problem but it was due to the geil ram, and i had to put old ram into the ds4 mobo and turn the voltages up then put the geil back in then it was fine, im trying this at the moment but if any one else has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. thanks dom

this is my spec

ds4 mobo
conroe 2.2ghz
radeon 1800xt
geil 2gb
pioneer dvd burner
antec p180

well i stuck sum old ram in the mobo inplace of the geil and it boots up sweet as. why would the geil ram suddenly stop working if i had upped the voltages to 2.1v ages ago, either y geil ram is buggered or my bios cant remember to output 2.1v on bootup, hmmm

well i just took the old ram back out after upping the voltage to 2.15v to see if that would kick the geil into action but it didnt work, and now i put my old ram back in and it dusnt work now either :( any ideas?
oh and since iv upped the voltage to 2.15v is that why my old ram wont work? and if it is how do i get my ram voltage back down if i cant get into the bios lol?

Cleared the cmos and rebooted it, worked fine. :D

Only problem now is iv got two 1gb sticks of geil ram that appear faulty, i bought it from overclockers last December so i think i can send them back, how do u send them back?

well i tried each stick itself and it didnt work

oh dear this dosnt look promising (thread)

when i bought these geil sticks they were 170 quid, now there 64!!!

i dont think ill buy any geil stuff again.

can anyone recommend new ram for me, 2X 1gb 6400 c4 anything around those specs will be fine, also its for a ds4 mobo :D

Thanks for info split

Oh dear! i turned my comp off and now it wont turn on, its doing the same thing again with the old ram in, i dont know if iv maybe damaged the old ram by having the voltage at 2.15v or if its another problem.
i dont have anyother ram to check it, whats the best route to take here?

misterpk well whats even weirder is that sometimes the comp does boot up fine with the old ram in, once its past the post the comp runs fine, i dont know how i could check the mobo, psu gfxcard individually as i dont have spares to try them on, i dont suppose there is a software tool that can run through windows to check them?

i would try that but it dosnt even post. it boots for about 2-3 seconds then turns of and does the same thign again n again. it wont even beep to tel me whats wrong grrr.

iv decided that the only way to check this is to buy new ram, so i bought the Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
will post results.
