Looking to get a new camera, mainly for city breaks / general holiday snaps of landmarks, scenery and people etc.

Therefore I think it needs:

1 inch sensor
Good amount of zoom
Compact size

Less so, but nice to have:

Strong battery life
Good connectivity options (e.g. Bluetooth / wifi)
GPS

What's the most appropriate option for this sort of camera?

Looking to spend at an absolute max say £800.

Thanks all!

I've got a couple of choices in mind but interested to get some second opinions.

Also check out the Panasonic TZ200, has a longer zoom than the RX100 cameras up to the mark 5.

I would recommend you look at reviews online and then go out and physically try the camera in a store, if you do this buy it from the store don't use them and go online to Amazon.

What does everyone do for the lack of GPS on these premium compact cameras? Seems only the cheaper one's have GPS nowadays, which seems odd.

I understand you can fetch the GPS data with a bluetooth paired phone on the RX100 / TZ200 but that seems rather awkward.

The RX100 VI seems prohibitively expensive at £1,150... the RX100 V (A) can be had for £650 I believe which puts it the same price as the TZ200. Alternatively isn't the Canon G7X Mk2 very similar (and cheaper than both)?

Walk closer :)
Made me laugh anyway :p Who needs a 100mm+ for city breaks? Even street photography doesn't really require that.

I've no idea about compacts but I ditched my SLR a while ago and went in for a Fuji XT10. Absolutely love it. I haven't got it (yet) but stick a 23/f2 on it and you've got the perfect walkabout. I've got the kit 18-55 and the 35/f2. Also bought a Nikon adapter so I can use my 50/f1.8 and 70-300 zoom.

Been into photography for 20+ years, most of my social circle are also photographers and there isn't a single one of them that cares one jot about GPS hence why its generally being removed from most camera. So to answer your question about what does everyone do about the lack of GPS...nothing because most photographers don't use it anyway. :p

And on the zoom limitation, its a city break not a wildlife trip. I've done city breaks on just a 35mm lens and didn't feel like I'd missed anything.

Think i'm liking the look of a Panasonic TZ200... have managed to get it down to a price of £554 (after Panasonic cashback) and with a potential 2% quidco on that, which seems pretty competitive.

Value for money I don't think anything will top this?

Sd card wise, I note that the SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDXC are cheaper (and seemingly rated faster) than the equivalent Extreme Pro SD card? Are MicroSD as good as SD cards? I'd imagine they should be slower (due to the compact size) but doesn't seem that way.

If a micro SD is as good and cheaper, I'd rather get one so I can put it straight into my Surface Pro without any adapters.
