Hi,

Not posted in this thread before and most of it seems to be pretty intense camera issues but I have a simple question.

Can anyone recomend a compact digital camera that takes reasonable photos but has a good movie mode? The reason for this is that with two kids you want to have a camera all of the time and taking the DSLR everywhere is not always practical. Secondly I just dropped my Sony W1 and the batery compartment door is now broke.

I have always had Sony compacts and quite like the T20 or T100 but after dropping my last Sony I like the idea of the Olympus µ[mju:] 770 SW for its toughness and waterproofness.

Anybody got any other recomendations? The ideal camera would be very small and thin, excellent video and good picture quality. Only want 5mp or so and don't really want to spend more than £200.

Thanks.

Panasonic TZ3? That has an 848x480 movie mode and a 10x lens. Lots of people like it. Some don't as they say it's a bit too noisy. Check it out.

Thanks for the reply!

Had a quick look and first impressions is that it is a bit big, the two cameras I mentioned did not have protruding lenses. Anyone else?

I really like the toughness of the Olympus and yone know anything about it? Trusted Reviews seemed to quite like it but thought that the image quality was a bit poor.

That Fuji seems to have excellent image quality for its size. How does it handle video? Also the review I read said that battery life was a bit poor, how have you found that?

Sorry for all the questions but I want to get the right camera!

Here I go again. A samsung S850 for just under 100 gbp does mpeg 4 and it is the best value compact out for the price which includes quality. Its older brother failed to get full marks simply because it lacked a viewfinder? ...and there was only two million pixels between the two. The former 10 million and the latter 8 million.

I like the look of that Samsung, it seems to do evrything I want in a neat package. I notice that it takes 2 AA batteries but is only 25mm thick, is that a minimum dimension?

hi. i bought the z5fd for my brother, i've just asked him now and he said the battery life is 'fine'. He's had no trouble with it.

i have an f31fd, which is essentially the same camera - just with some semi manual controls and a slightly bigger battery.

i have some low light footage taken on the f31fd, but can do some video with the z5fd if u want. anything in particular (no, i'm not doing cam requests like that :p ) but i mean like fast motion, or changing lighting etc. i'll see what i can do.

Thanks hugely for the offer of the tasteful videos but I reckon I can do without! The video capability of the Z5FD seems to be a little lower than the likes of the Sony or Samsung, so I am still pondering.

Thanks again for the offer, I really appreciate it.
