Hi all. Still in my quest for deciding what camera to get, and still a long way from it :p, but was wondering if anyone has used those Compact Flash to SD card adapters?

SD is much much cheaper than CompactFlash, so sounds like a good idea, but do they actually work properly?

I think I've read that they work perfectly fine, but the speed of the writing takes some performance hit. So if you take a burst of photos then you won't be able to take as many photos in a row, and if you max the camera buffer, you'll have to wait longer before you can start shooting again. This is only from what I remember reading from someone else saying.

Have you though about how many cards you will actually need and what size?

I've just gone from SD to CF. I had 2x 4GB cards before, never needed anymore, so I've gone for the same again.

They're not that expensive, just picked up sandisk 8gb ultra for 20 quid? That's about 450 raw shots on a 1dmk3 (iso setting dependant)
